Juno Practise Edit
h
You are editing your own footage, how did the filming go?
I thought that the filming went reasonably well, considering we managed to film the whole video within the given hour. One of the clips I used didn't go to plan as the Sun unintentionally glared the image a little but we didn't have enough time to redo the shot so we stuck with the original glared clip and made do with it.
Was your storyboard accurate?
The storyboard was reasonably accurate compared to the Juno video I created.
What were your strengths and weaknesses in the group?
I think that the strengths in the group was that we managed to get things done quickly in regards to the filming of the project, the creating of the storyboard etc. However I think that we could've filmed one or two shots for each clip to make sure it was as similar to the actual video as it could potentially be.
Did you get all the footage you wanted?
Yes we managed to get the footage needed to produce the video in relation to the storyboard.
What technical skills - camera and premiere - did you learn?
The software I used to edit my footage was Adobe Premiere, i managed to pick up a few new techniques and technical skills whilst using it to make my video that little bit better. For example I worked out how to use the video transitions in between each clip, the effect 'Slide' came in handy when editing as it was similar to what was used in the original Juno video. I also used video effects such as 'Equalise' which made the video have a more cartoony feel to it which made it feel similar to the original Juno also.
How does it compare to the original?
I think it that my final piece came out reasonably well. Each camera angle used in my Juno piece seems to be roughly the same as the original Juno which is good as it gives a realer feel. However, to improve, I think that the timings in some areas of the video could have been altered to fit the original better, given more time I would have edited or re filmed some clips to make sure the timings were more accurate.

Film - The Toy Company
This is the film Olivia Seymour, Olivia Plumpton and I created after being given the genre 'children' to create a film around. We were given two lessons to think of a whole new film and come up with a plot, characters, BBFC certificate and marketing ideas. In the end we eventually came up with the idea of the film 'The Toy Company'. After presenting it to the class we recieved a variety of different feedback from our class and most of the marks we were given were in the 7/8/9 out of 10 in all sections of the feedback which I think is quite highly rated. People generally seemed to have a liking towards our cast list and our marketing ideas, especially one that isn't mentioned on here but involves handing out balloons with the film poster on to children in popular cities/towns.
To improve further on the film I think if we spent more time on each section and together brought more ideas to the table then we would have been able to come up with more creative ideas. Also if we done some individual work on an allocated section of the movie it would have been more efficient because we wouldn't have the problem of ideas clashing.
Analyzing Movie Trailers
Oculus Movie trailer
D - describe
I - in detail
S - setting:time, location, interior/exterior, day/night
T - themes. friendship, family, love, revenge
I - icons: symbols, significant objects
N - narrative: plot, character
C - characters: speech, presentation,look, style
T - Textual analysis: camera, editing, sound, mise en scene
From the trailer we can establish that this film is clearly a horror'thriller. From what we see initially it looks as though the characters are seeking revenge from something their father did when they were children, we can clearly see that the mirror presented in the trailer is a significant object throughout as there are many scenes and clips based around this strange mirror in the trailer. It is set in the present time in a dark house, furthermore I can tell it is set in America by the accents of the characters. Signs that it is a horror film are the low key lighting, the scary and paranormal occurrences and eerie noises in the background.

Semiotics

Denotation - what we see when we see an image
Connotaion - other hidden meanings of what we see.
For the film 'The Strangers there are several different connotations and denotaions given off from the front cover. The women's posture who is standing in the image makes the viewer feel there is an creepy atmosphere in the room she happens to be standing in. The low key lighting emphasises this too, it makes it feel as if something is going to take a turn for the worse. If you look deeper into the picture you can see an alarming figure wearing a white mask or a white bag standing behind the women. To make matters worse the women in the image isn't aware of the figures presence, making it feel like it is planning to do something terrible like a planned attack for instance.

recognised by different people who like different kinds of films. Each one has
codes and conventions, these are used to meet audience expectations. If the film
does not meet audience expectations, the audience will be disappointed.
A text is classified in a genre through the identification of key elements which occur in the text and in others of the same genre. These elements are referred to as codes and conventions.
Audiences recognise these paradigms and bring expectations of the genre.

shop for example making it easier to find what you are particularly looking
for.
