Genre

Genre: A style or category of film; each type of film are recognised by different people who like different kinds of films. Each one has codes and conventions, these are used to meet audience expectations. If the film does not meet audience expectations, the audience will be disappointed.

A text is classified in a genre through the identification of key elements which occur in the text and in others of the same genre. These elements are referred to as codes and conventions.
Audiences recognise these paradigms and bring expectations of the genre.
Films are arranged by genre in a shop for example making it easier to find what you are particularly looking for.

horror
Here is an example of a picture which portrays a sense of horror. I done this by using low key lighting, this gives the picture an eerie  yet mysterious feel. I captured the image in a secluded area in a food tech room. The props I used consisted of a large knife and a woollen mouse. The knife can clearly be observed to be the main iconic item in the film, it portrays a sense of horror and panic. Furthermore I centred the objects and props used in the image to make it feel it is the main thing happening. To make the image better and make it feel more of an intense horror I could  have something in the background to enhance the effect of horror, for example a trail of blood.
comedy
Here is a picture portraying an aspect of comedy. In the picture I used high key lighting to give the image a happier feel, it was taken at the back playground and the character Chay is holding a year 7 pupil on his shoulders, this makes it feel as if he is an important character in the image. This could incorporated in a comedy scene as chay is seen a bully towards the younger children. However the children will get their revenge back on the bully by making a fool out of him. To further improve the image the character Chay's facial expressions could be alot happier, this would have a massive effect on making the image have a more of a comedy feel to it.

action
This is an action based image showing the character Chay being punched in face, immediately depicting an overall feel of action. The image was captured also in the back playground and again Chay seems to be the main character as he is the only person in the image, excluding the hand that is in the act of punching him. To improve the image I think that if the image showed two people in mid fight it would better portray the genre of action. Furthermore I think that if there was something occuring in the background for example another fight happening, or somebody running after someone else, it would aid the overall sense of action and make the image have a feel of pure chaos because there is so much happening at one place in the same frame.
